How delivery platform fees affect profit
Food delivery orders often include platform commissions, payment fees, and service charges. The menu price is not the same as the amount the restaurant actually receives. This calculator estimates net receipts, unit profit, and margin after delivery fees.
Use it to compare dine-in, takeaway, and delivery pricing, or to decide whether a separate delivery price, minimum order value, or menu adjustment is needed.
Formula or logic
- Commission = Selling price × Commission rate
- Net receipt = Selling price - Commission - Other fees
- Delivery unit profit = Net receipt - Unit cost
Example
If the delivery price is 200, commission is 30%, other fees are 5, and unit cost is 80, the net receipt is 135 and the unit profit is 55.
Common questions
Should delivery prices match in-store prices?
Not always. If commission is high, using the same price may reduce or erase profit.
Should payment fees be included?
Yes, if the fee occurs on each order, include it to avoid overestimating profit.
Can this be used with discounts?
Yes. Use the discounted selling price as the input, then apply commission and unit cost to estimate real profit.
